Fall in love with your inner writer this Valentine’s day.

Treat yourself to six weeks of wordy goodness with the latest Writing the City course.

Starts Valentine’s Day at the Mary Ward Centre:

Writing the City with Creative Writing tutor Claire Collison

Taking inspiration from the wealth of museums, galleries, and public spaces within a stone’s throw of the Mary Ward Centre, bang in the centre of Bloomsbury, you will be visiting a new place each week, exploring its treasures and discovering how to use these experiences as a spring board for your own writing.

As writers, escaping our routines and refreshing our senses with exposure to new delights is a valuable tool – both for invigorating our practice and for generating material.

For one day each week you will be treated to a mind-spa of inspiration and a workout of writing exercises. Alongside place-specific prompts designed to encourage the development of your unique author’s voice will be those designed to hone your craft.

Each week, you will leave with full notebooks, renewed creativity and a greater love of London.

Suitable for all levels of writer, from the complete beginner to the more experienced. Following an initial introductory session at the Mary Ward Centre, you will be visiting a different location each week for three hours of on-the-spot writing. After a lunch break, back at the Mary Ward Centre, you will share some of your brand new writing in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Here’s what previous participants had to say about Writing the City:

‘It’s a fab course! Every week we visit somewhere completely different – somewhere that is not one of the usual touristy places – and use what we experience to focus on writing a piece… This is such a supportive, but exciting, way of developing writing skills – as well as seeing places that I hadn’t visited before!‘ Gail

‘Magical days of exploring London, using this wonderful backdrop to then go and write. Claire’s enthusiasm has helped us develop our skills while making the whole course a voyage of discovery. Discovery of our city, of writing, and of ourselves… This course has given me a renewed love of writing. The freedom of writing for pleasure is new, unexpected and surprisingly addictive…‘ Astrid
